Larry Cornelius

Larry Randall Cornelius formally of Clinton, Maryland went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Larry was the beloved husband to Ethel “Jean” and amazing father to two children, Randall and Gina. Larry was born January 13, 1945 in Mooresville, North Carolina where he spent most of his younger years. Larry graduated from Winston-Salem State University, Winston-Salem, N.C. in 1963. After he graduated he was drafted into the U.S. Army and went to the Vietnam War in 1966. After his time spent in the Army, he continued his education. Larry earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree specializing in Corrections from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1985. Later on he attended the Chesapeake Regional Safety Council, in the State of Maryland, 1992. Larry was a man of many jobs. He was the owner and operator of Savoy Lounge in Mooresville, NC from 1978-1982. While also serving as a parole officer for Mecklenburg County in the state of North Carolina from 1978-1982. He later moved to the DMV area and worked for the D.C. Department of Corrections, as a correctional officer for Lorton, V.A. and Washington, D.C. from 1983-1987. Then from 1988-1991 he worked as a safety inspector for the PEPCO Utility Company in Washington, D.C. After he left PEPCO he worked as an armed security officer for the state department of Washington, D.C. from 1991-2005, where he would retire from. Larry is survived by his loving wife E. “Jean” Alexander Cornelius; his son Randall Cornelius and daughter Gina Adair Cornelius of Oxon Hill, MD; surviving sister Billie Wilson of Mooresville, NC; cousin Annie Margaret Phifer of Mooresville, NC; three grandchildren Malique Rashad Cornelius (US Navy in Japan), Keyonte Montel Cornelius of Fredericksburg, VA, and Leilani Thomas of Rochester, NY, and a host of cousins and friends.
