On Monday June 12, 2023 at Southern Maryland Hospital Center, God whispered our beautiful angel LaVerne home.
LaVerne Hazel Dodson (Vern) was born on April 26, 1951 in Washington, DC to the late Andrew A. Davis and Margaret D. Cooper. LaVerne received her education within the Charlotte North Carolina Public School System and graduated from West Charlotte Senior High School in 1969. After receiving her high school Diploma, LaVerne attended Charlotte Business Academy where she received her Associates Degree in Technology in 1971. After college, LaVerne moved to Washington, DC in 1974 where she met the “Man of her Dreams”. They were joined in Holy Matrimony on November 28, 1977 and to this beautiful union, their daughter Ericka J. Dodson was born. At an early age LaVerne accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was an active member of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Ft. Washington Maryland until her health declined.LaVerne enjoyed long conversations and spending time with family and friends. She absolutely loved to sew and create needle point embroidery art. LaVerne also loved to create ceramic bowls/vases and create beautiful color by number pictures. LaVerne was a loving mother and wife, devoted daughter and sister, and loved her family. Even during the days where she wasn’t feeling her best, she always found the time to call and check on her family and friends. LaVerne worked over 15+ years at Woodward and Lothrop Corporation (Woodies) in Alexandria, VA. LaVerne then spent over 20 years working at Walmart in Clinton, MD until her retirement.
LaVerne’s life and legacy will be cherished forever by her loving husband, James Dodson Jr; one granddaughter Sharai Dodson-Bland; one sister Eloise “Necee” Hudson; one brother Andre A. Davis; Godson Maurice Chuang Jr; dedicated cousin Helen Chuang (BooBoo); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her son Anthony Davis; daughter Ericka J. Dodson; mother Margaret D. Cooper; father Andrew A. Davis; grandparents Wylie and Ella Duren; father and mother-in-love Edward and Gladys Dodson.
