Leonard V. Blunt, Jr. of Upper Marlboro, MD passed peacefully with his family around him on March 23, 2019, just shy of his 88th birthday. Born in Newport News, VA, son of Laura Mae and Leonard V. Blunt. He attended and graduated from Huntington High School, Class of 1949. Leonard’s high school days were highlighted with his exceptional football and basketball skills. After high school, Leonard enlisted in the US Air Force at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in VA. This was the start of a decorated career that lasted for 20 years, retiring from Andrews Air Force Base in 1970 with an Honorable Discharge. Leonard continued to direct his high energy and enthusiasm outward toward the many people for whom he cared for, especially his family. After his retirement he continued for 22 years at Andrews, as a chef/manager at the Officer’s club. After his second retirement, Leonard and his wife opened and managed DJ’s Carryout in Waldorf, MD. Those who had the joy of knowing him were engaged by his wit, his joy for life and his compassion for others. During times of relaxation, Leonard could be found fishing or playing cards. If music came on, he loved to dance. Beloved husband of Louise Blunt; loving father of Pat (Dean) Jones of Brandywine, MD, Lynn Blunt of Richmond, VA, Timothy "Timmy" (Valerie) Blunt of Washington, DC, Sheila (Lorinzo) Whitson of Hampton, VA, Felecia "Vonnie" (Gregory) Mosley of Phenix City, AL, Brenda Grooms of Washington, DC and Dineen Powers of Elkridge, MD; Also survived by a sister, Marion Jordan of Atlanta, GA and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Leonard was predeceased by his sisters, the late Aurelia White and Eloise Garrow.
