Levelt David Williams, passed away on January 13, 2025 at the age of 88 after a long illness. He was the first of twelve children -Born to the late Richard Williams and Lillian Merle(Smith)Williams on Friday, July 17, 1936 in Blackstone, Nottaway County, Virginia.
“Horse” ,as he was known by his friends, spent his growing up years in Turner Station where he attended school graduating with Letters in Football, Basketball and Track from Sollers Point High School in their Academic Program in 1955. Levelt had interest in Architecture but would in the fall of 1955 decide to serve his country enlisting in the Marines. He retired Honorably in 1966 with over 10 years of service to the United States. He was proud to be a Marine.
Levelt married Anita Louise Jones a Morgan State College French Major on June 14, 1958, after a world wind courtship and engagement, at Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church. Their 10 year marriage would celebrate the births of two sons Michael Levelt Williams and Mark David Williams. Due to Levelt’s assignments and deployments, the Williams Family would live in Bethesda, Maryland, Honolulu, Hawaii(where Mark Williams was born), San Diego and San Ana, CA.
After leaving the Military, Levelt worked at the US Post Office for a few years. Wanting to build a career- In 1971 he joined the District Government as an operating accountant. As a single dad going to college at night and working during the day, in 1974, He graduated from Southeastern University with a degree in Accounting. L.D. Williams as he was known by his work colleagues would grow his career with the District Government eventually retiring with the Department of Human Services as a Financial Management Advisor in 1989 with many honors and distinguished accomplishments. From retirement until 2011 Levelt hung his own shingle as a Financial Consultant. In addition, he built personal computers for family and friends and encouraged any young person that would listen to go into Computer Science, Analysis, hardware and software.
He was a devoted member of the Allen Chapel AME Methodist Church in Southeast Washington DC. Levelt loved being a dad and being with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his sisters, brothers and dear friends. Throughout his life- he loved any western movie or TV show, great jazz, a good party, he was an excellent chef teaching both his sons the joy of creating meals for loved ones, He was the great entertainer in his day, a suave dresser, someone who loved a good laugh and always a good bourbon. Levelt was competitive in all things. And a serious die-hard Washington Commanders fan to the absolute very end.
Levelt is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Lillian Williams, brothers Kenneth, Richard Odelle, Donald Williams. Sisters Maureen Brown, Burnelle Williams. Nephew Duval Thornton, Niece Karen Williams Woods. He leaves to mourn him sons Michael Williams and Mark Williams, daughter in law, Sharon Williams and daughter in law, Linda Williams, his grandchildren Mark Jamerson, Matthew Williams, Stefan Williams, Lauren Williams and Christopher Williams. His great grandchildren Stefan Williams Jr, Meadow Jamerson, Amer’e Lunn, Kyrie Lunn and Sebastian Jamerson. His beloved sisters Sylvia Washington Mason, Louise Thomas, Maxcene Williams, Linda Bankins, and brothers Morris Williams and Clarence Williams. Nieces and nephews – Tanya, Denise, Glen, Gerald, Gina(Glenda),Corey, Adriane, Stacey, Jamal, Raynard, Sister in Laws Eileen and Sherry, brother in law Leslie and a host of great nephews and nieces, cousins and dear friends.
