Lillian Dukeshire Hammerly September 18, 1931 – August 22, 2019 Born Lillian May Dukeshire to Charles Lockhart Dukeshire and Minnie Leona (White) Dukeshire, in Manchester, New Hampshire. Lil’s grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Nova Scotia, Canada. Lillian and Kenneth Everett Hammerly met in New Hampshire when Ken was in the Army Air Corp., they married and eventually moved to Maryland. Lil and Ken lived in love, residing in the town of Lothian for over 38 years together, gaining many friends in their neighborhood and church. Lil was baptized in the Baptist church and was a member of both the Baptist Church of Upper Marlboro, and Calvary Baptist Church of Upper Marlboro. Lil and Ken’s love is carried on by their two children, Charles Edwin and Dorothy Ruth. Robert Mawyer, a close childhood friend of Charlie’s was loved as a son and Robert’s daughter Kimberly was loved as a granddaughter by Nana and Pop. Lil & Ken’s love would extend to many more as time passed, their very natures seeking out those who needed kindness in difficult times. Charlie is married to Jen and they reside in Delaware. Dot is married to Dennis Cusack and they reside in Dunkirk, MD. Dot has one son, Chad Everett Kilmer from a prior marriage. Through Chad’s younger years his Nana and Pop watched him while Dot worked. Like her parents, Dots love has extended to Chad’s close childhood friend Chris Broadhurst. Chris was loved as a grandson by Nana and Pop, and his daughter Ava was loved as a great granddaughter by Nana, her arrival in this world being after Pops passing. During Chads childhood many of his friends also grew close to Nana and Pop and will honor her as her pallbearers. For more than thirty years Lil was a sales representative for Avon. During her time with Avon she received many awards and accolades. As Lil never drove, Ken was her sales assistant and delivery service for many years. Lil had many hobbies: reading romance novels, crocheting, knitting, and crafts with yarn and plastic, and more. She loved cats, of which she had many including Fluffy, Inky, Beauty, Baby, Mittens, Bobbie & Petey. And, of course, Lil was a huge fan of Elvis. She had many collections of his music, movies, books, photos, towels, posters, and memorabilia, including a full-size talking cardboard cutout. Lil saw Elvis in concert in 1974 and visited Graceland in 2003 and is most likely dancing with The King of Rock and Roll now.
