Loretta C. (Hoffmann) MonaLoretta (Boie) C. (Hoffmann) Mona passed away on December 15th as a result of kidney failure. She was 91 years of age. Born on May 15, 1921 in Washington D.C. She was the 5th of 10 children born to Fritz D. Hoffmann and Eva (Sweeney) Hoffmann. She was the recipient of a high school scholarship and attended Saint Patrick’s Academy High in D.C. She was employed at the C& P Telephone Company in the business office. She met the love of her life, Joseph Vincent Mona and was married on June 21, 1939.In 1955 the family moved to the Maryland suburbs of Prince Georges County where they continued to raise an expanding family. Loretta was a very caring and unselfish person. Every act she performed was for others. Some of her favorite charitable organizations, which she faithfully supported were the South East Community Hospital; St. Jude’s Hospital, The Good Samaritan Society of which she was an officer; Christmas in April (fundraising and volunteer); Susan & Andrew Mona Foundation(Board of Directors) and Mona Properties (community involvement director).Loretta enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and playing the “Slots” with siblings, family and friends. She also enjoyed watching her children play the many sports that they were involved in. In later years she was employed by her son’s electrical contracting business as Secretary/Treasurer and coined their safety slogan “Safety Pays Dividends for Life” which today still is their mantra. She also served as Vice President and Resident Agent for the Port Tobacco Restaurant-Marina and RV Resort Park. Loretta is survived by her children, Joseph Mona (Jean) of Accokeek, MD, Michael Mona (Margaret) of La Plata, MD, Vincent Mona (Sue/Christina) of Naples, FL, Garrett Mona(Tammy) of Annapolis, MD, Dominic Mona (Kim) of Annapolis , MD, Cid Green (Bob) of La Plata, MD and Donna Myers (Kevin) of Huntingtown, MD. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are June Hoffmann, Frederick Hoffmann, Eva Dawson, Mary Krug and Francis Hoffmann.Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Vincent Mona who died onJanuary 28th ,1983. She also was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Bishop as well as her brothers Carl Hoffmann, Vincent Hoffmann and John Hoffmann. Relatives and friends may call the Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road, Clinton, MD.On Thursday December 20th 2pm- 5pm and 6pm- 8pm.A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 21st at St. Johns Catholic Church 8908 Old Branch Avenue Clinton, Maryland.
