Lucille M. Davis

May 8, 1922 — August 22, 2011

Lucille M. Davis\n \nLucille Mary Davis of Clinton, Maryland, died August 22, 2011 at Bradford Oaks Nursing home.\nBorn May 8, 1922 in Clinton, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Helen Curtis Davis. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Goldsboro Galloway, and siblings Mable Washington, Eleanor Davis, Annie Smith, Arthur “Buddy” Davis, John Davis, Ernest “Rabbit” Davis, Marguerite Drake, and Marie Phillips.\nLucille is survived by her sons, Joseph Anthony Cole and Michael Ouzts Cole, and her daughter, Mary Patricia Munson. She is also survived by six granddaughters, numerous great-grandchildren, and her brother, James Davis.\nLeaving her family’s home at 13, Lucille went to live with Harry and Martha Miller of Miller Farms in Clinton. From that time on she spoke of the Millers as her “family,” and she was accepted as a family member. Growing up on Miller Farms, she helped with household duties like cooking, cleaning, and caring for children; however, she could also be found in the fields, working alongside other Millers, planting and harvesting crops. \nAs Lucille grew older, she would spend her weekends in Washington, DC, but she always returned to Clinton on weekdays. She was a caregiver to Harry Miller until his death in 1981. At that point she began to live in Washington full time but she returned to Clinton often to help her “family” whenever help was needed.\nFrom 2005 until her admission to Bradford Oaks in March, 2010, Lucille lived in Clinton on a permanent basis with some of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Harry and Martha Miller.\nLucille loved to play the numbers and a good game of Pitch. A Whiskey Sour at family weddings was a special treat. More than anything, she enjoyed reminiscing about family times past. She had an amazing memory for numbers – telephone numbers, daily numbers, and everyone’s age. Not only did she remember the month, day, and year of your birth, but she could often recall the time of day when you were born!\nMore than a friend, Lucille was truly family. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.\n \n\n \n To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Lucille M. Davis please visit our Sympathy Store.
