Luis Alberto Catarineau, 82, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away of natural causes on March 3, 2023. Luis was born on May 14, 1940, in Vieques, Puerto Rico to Francisco Alejandro Catarineau and Laura Rivera Font. In 1952, he moved to New York City with his mother and older brother, Miguel Angel Catarineau.
In 1957, Luis graduated from New York City Public Schools. Luis enlisted in the Army in 1958 and served as a clerk in the medical corps at Fort Riley in Kansas City, Missouri from 1958 to 1960. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he began working as a GS-2 clerk typist for the federal government. During this time, Luis attended the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Education with a Minor in Educational Administration. He later earned his master's degree of Business Administration from UDC as well.
Luis served as the treasurer at Clinton Baptist Church and later became a Deacon and an Elder at Redeemed Christian Worship Center in Waldorf, Maryland. Luis was preceded in death by his father, Francisco Alejandro Catarineau, his mother, Laura Rivera Font, and his brother, Miguel Angel Catarineau.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Mildred Sánchez-Catarineau, his daughters, Brenda Thompson, Angie Marie Sidney, Laura Raquel Catarineau, his son, Luis Alejandro Catarineau, and his grandchildren Jenna Melissa Thompson, Aaron Jefferson Thompson, Kyle Allan Sidney, and Mia Raquel Drury.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please join us during this time of remembrance at Lee Funeral Home located at 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road, Clinton, Maryland 20735.
A funeral service will be held at Lee Funeral Home on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at 1:45 p.m. at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery located at 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.
