Mabel Vernail Saunders Proctor

Mabel Vernail Saunders Proctor, 88, of Clinton, Maryland, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, September 30, 2023. 

Mabel grew up in Appomattox, VA. She moved to Washington D.C. in her teenage years. She graduated from Springarn High School in 1953. Mabel loved to cook (she was the best cook), She made a career of it until she retired from Oakland Inn Restaurant in 1989. Mabel was a “fan” of the Dallas Cowboys and liked to watch WWE Wrestling and dancing shows. She married the love of her life, the late Joseph H. Proctor, and became a wonderful mother to five children.

Mabel joins three children in heaven, Michael Proctor, Doris Jones, and Genie Proctor, her husband Joseph H. Proctor, her parents Louberta Beatrice Keys and Jeffery Thomas Saunders, her siblings Glady Preston, Rose Luck, and Calvin Saunders.

Mabel is survived by her children Regina Proctor and Donald Proctor (Nina) grandchildren Donald Jr., Raymond, LaMeshia, and Michael Jr. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Darius, Taylor, Marcus Jr., Zoe, and Johnathan, her sister Elise Harvey, and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, and her best friend Margie Tubbs.

Mom’s spirit is at rest now, smiling down at her loved ones from heaven. She will be missed every day (love you ma) until we meet again. Love-u-forever.    -Regina Proctor
