Marcena D. Haymaker

November 18, 1922 — February 8, 2017

Marcena D. Haymaker, 94, of Ft. Washington, MD passed away peacefully at home on the warm morning of February 8, 2017. Born in Oklahoma City, OK, she was the daughter of Lillian Faye (Cline) and Robert E. Lee Deck. She was Valedictorian of her class when she graduated from Gracemont High School in Oklahoma. After graduation, the FBI came to Oklahoma City to recruit graduates for jobs in Washington D.C. She moved from Oklahoma to Washington D.C. in 1942 to work for the FBI. Soon after starting work at the FBI, she was introduced to her husband, who had come home from serving in World War II. They were married on January 17, 1947. They moved from Washington, DC to Maryland where she was a resident of Prince George’s County for 69 years. After leaving the FBI, the remainder of working years were spent in Real Estate and Land Management. She loved the outdoors and working in her yard. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. She loved trees, taking walks and watching the wildlife that frequented her backyard. She loved being around friends and family and was always up for an adventure. Beloved wife of the late Charles E. Haymaker; loving mother of Patricia Ann Vance and her husband James R. Brown of Waldorf, MD and Sharon R. Haymaker of Orangeville, PA; devoted grandmother of Katharine Ann Vance of Myrtle Beach, SC; dear sister of Gladys Deck of Oklahoma City, OK, Betsy Shatley of Dallas, TX, and Delbert Deck of Farmington, New Mexico. In addition to her husband and parents, Marcena was predeceased by her siblings Robert Lee Deck, Rowena Swisher, Coy Lee Deck, and William Deck.
