Marian Martin was born on October 19, 1946 in Washington, DC to the late Otis and Annie Lee Martin.
She was the second of four children. God suddenly called Marian home in the early morning hours of
July 22, 2022. Marian spent most of her childhood in South Carolina with her grandparents and family.
Marian was very fond of South Carolina and loved being there. She moved back to Washington, DC as a
teenager and attended Eastern High School where she graduated in 1966.
Marian spent her adult career employed as a nurse with St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Marian loved her job
and the patients she tended to. Marian had many things that she enjoyed some of which included her
passion of horse races, playing cards and bingo. She made many friends along the way. Though she
never had children of her own, she was like a mother to many. She offered sound advice and a loving
heart. She was always there offering child care, shelter or being there to listen and talk to. She would
also give it to you straight and didn’t mince words. This was one of her most endearing qualities.
During the untimely death of Marian’s sister Nita, Marian took on helping take care of her daughter’s,
Michelle and Nisha. She was like a second mother and treated their husbands, kids and grandchildren
like her own children.
Marian was many things, a fierce card player, a great friend, a good trash talker and a great baker of the
family lemon pound cake. She will be greatly missed by all she touched.
Proceeded by death are her parents, Otis Martin and Annie Lee Martin, her sister Arnetia (Nita) Ransom
(Malcolm Ransom). Marian leaves to cherish in her memory her brothers Otis T Martin (Marilyn
Martin), Terry P Martin (Corinthian Martin). Her nieces Colette Michelle Marshall (Darrell Marshall),
Donisha R Ransom-Quarcoopome (Michael Quarcoopome), Jessica Martin and Nephew Jeramie Martin
(Chisa Martin). God daughter Estella Johnson.
Her great nieces and nephews Darnevon Ray, Maia Wiltshire, Brandyn Pryor, Dahlya Pryor, Avery
Marshall, Alana Marshall, Kylarr Martin, Kambry Martin, Keyaun Martin and Skylar Mayfair and a host of
other family and friends.
