Marlene Jessup, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and pillar of her community, passed away on February 11, 2025, at the age of 83. Born and raised in Washington D.C., Marlene was the daughter of the late Herbert and Grace Coombs.
Marlene was married to her beloved husband, Neil Jessup Sr., for over 60 years until his passing in 2022. She is survived by her children, Neil Jr., Frederick, and Crystal; grandchildren, Monet, Frederick, Donzell, Ashley, Aaliyah, Delaino, Zhane, and Tymere; great-grandchildren, Ava, Jayce, Adrian, and Autumn; sister, Patricia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Grace Coombs; daughter, Angela; husband, Neil Jessup Sr.; and sister, Shirley.
Marlene attended school in Washington D.C. and later pursued her passion for beauty at cosmetology school in the 1960s. She loved being a beautician and worked at Clarice's Beauty Salon for over 30 years. After retiring from the salon, Marlene went on to become a valet supervisor for 13 years.
In her free time, Marlene enjoyed playing bingo, often playing at least four days a week. She was also a mother figure to all the kids in the neighborhood, who affectionately knew her as a kind and caring presence in their lives.
Marlene bravely battled dementia in her later years. Her family and loved ones will cherish memories of her love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community.
