Marguerite Rae "Mitzi" Mason 1933--2020, age 87, of Forestville, Maryland, the guiding light and love of our lives passed away July 8, 2020, doing what she loved to do on her regular Wednesday shopping jaunt and visiting with the local merchants. Mitzi was born February 4, 1933 to parents Francis Edward and Irene Marguerite Swing in Newark, New Jersey. Mitzi was raised in Southwest, Washington D.C. Mitzi married Melvin James Mason on August 14, 1949, Melvin preceded her in death in 2005. Mitzi is survived by her two sons, Melvin James, Jr. and Thomas Richard (Tina), her two brothers Francis Edward "Fritz" (Dorothy) and Alan Hamilton "Buddy" Swing, and many nieces and nephews. All of these she loved and touched deeply. Mitzi is predeceased by her parents and her sister Shirley Mae Venente. Mitzi developed a long and meaningful career as a civilian employee of the Air Force working her way from a clerk/stenographer to a mission specialist, which included many national and international projects. She traveled to many locations around the globe. Mitzi retired to devote her full attention to Melvin Sr. as his health steadily deteriorated. Mitzi's passion for caring for her family and her companion cats drove her in forever striving to improve the life, wellbeing, and surroundings for the family. Mitzi's constant attention to the house and yard kept her busy and active beyond belief. Mitzi hated clutter but kept everything. She was ever quick to say, "I love you" and we always knew she meant it. Mitzi involved herself in her sons’ endeavors as they grew up and always provided support in their adult years. Mitzi enjoyed watching the Washington Sports teams with her family. Sewing and knitting were an art form when crafted by her. Family gatherings always started with her cooking. In recent years, Mitzi developed a great joy and satisfaction of looking after the local wildlife. She would prepare nightly a bucket of treats tailored to nourish all her nighttime visitors. Mitzi enjoyed her winter stays at the Outer Banks Beach House.
