Martha E. Swartzbaugh, 74, of Clinton, MD died with her family by her side after an extended illness early Friday morning, May 22, 2020. She was born August 21, 1945 in Baxley, GA. Martha is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. She loved to meditate on God’s word, to worship the Lord in word and song, to encourage and serve others through cards, calls, preparing meals and many other avenues, and she was a dedicated prayer warrior. Martha was a member of The Upper Room Fellowship in Clinton, MD, and retired from Safeway Stores with over 33 years of service. Martha is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Lewis Swartzbaugh. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her daughter, Debbie West and her husband, Rudolph; and her son, Lewis M. Swartzbaugh, Jr. Also surviving are her dear brothers- and sisters-in-law, Cecil Sellers, Donald Swartzbaugh (Bonnie), James Swartzbaugh, Jr. (Bonnie), Beverly Kinser (Gary), and Patsy Swartzbaugh; nephews and nieces Danny Halligan, Steve Sellers (Debbie), Stacey Capps (Ed), Kenny Swartzbaugh (Sharon), Kevin Swartzbaugh (Rhonda), Leslie Brown, David Swartzbaugh (Patti), Michael Swartzbaugh (Susan), James Swartzbaugh, III (Amy), Tammy Mize (Mark), Tommy Kinser (Vicki), Charles Kinser (Sharon); and many beloved extended family members and friends. Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Willie A. and Margaret “Bessie” Sammons; her sisters, Juanita Halligan and Glenda Sellers; her brothers-in-law, Kenneth Swartzbaugh and Ray Halligan; her nephews, David Halligan, Donnie Swartzbaugh and Jason Kinser; and niece, Jan Pate. Visitation will be held at Lee Funeral Home in Owings, MD, on Sunday, June 14, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate Martha’s life will also be at Lee Funeral Home in Owings, MD, on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. with the Reverend Prince Davis officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered on behalf of Martha to The MDS Foundation, Inc. at www.mds-foundation.org ; Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers but most of all a very special thanks to our family and friends for their love and support during her journey.
