Mary Elizabeth Spriggs

Mary Elizabeth Spriggs passed away on December 20, 2020. She was born on January 4, 1930 in Morgantown, WV to the late Joseph Wade Short and Dorothy Eleanor [Jones] Short. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Spriggs, who passed away in December of 2004. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Treherne. She graduated from Shepherd College in 1952 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry and Mathematics and an A.B. Degree in Secondary Education. She was a frequent substitute teacher at Surrattsville high school where she was fondly known as "Sarge Spriggs". She enjoyed researching and tracing genealogy, reading, and gardening. She especially enjoyed growing tomatoes. She is survived by her three children: Barbara Gill, Carol Kneiss [Gary], and Mike Spriggs [Carolyn]. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Ashley Gill, Robert Gill, Lauren Ruehle, Rachel Richie, and Beth Kneiss, and six great-grandchildren.
