MAURICE HENRY GOLDCHAIN (Age 81)A renowned broadcaster at the Voice of America for 25 years, died at Southern Maryland Hospital on Sunday, January 14, 2007.Mr. Goldchain, a Maryland resident, was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on July 6th, 1925. He lived in Santiago, Chile for most of his life and moved to Washington, DC in 1958.During his service as a federal employee, he was a Spanish broadcaster, editor and translator for the United States Information Agency. He was very well known in the Latin American community. He interviewed several American and Latin American presidents, diplomats and celebrities. After 25 years of service for the Voice of America branch, he worked for Radio Marti for a brief period. His career in the broadcasting business was one to be marveled and respected.He was a world traveler and was fluent in seven different languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Yiddish, German and Italian.Mr. Goldchain was an accomplished Mason of 57 years and received his 33rd Degree Mason on October 3, 2001. He was a member of Albert Pike Lodge #36, and the Alianza Fraternal Americana Lodge, No. 82, Grand Lodge F.A.A.M. of the Distict of Columbia. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Laly Goldchain; his children, Ariel Goldchain, Gloria Henning, Alma Goldchain, Linda Gibson, Marcos Goldchain and Rebecca Ziegler; nine grand- children; his brother, Emilio Goldchain. His first wife, Maria Goldchain, predeceased him on January 12,1986. Friends may call LEE FUNERAL HOME, INC., Branch Ave. & Coventry Way, Clinton, Maryland, on Thursday, January 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. With a Masonic Service to take place at 7:30 p.m.A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 28, 3 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, 8200 Old Keene Mill Rd., Springfield, VA 22152.
