Michael John Cusato, Sr., 91, of Washington, DC., passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2013 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C.Michael John Cusato, Sr., was born in Washington, D.C. to Carmelo and Christina Cusato on September 26, 1923. He Worked at the Navy Gun Factory as a Machinist Apprentice from 1941-1943. There after he enlisted in the U.S. Army his Army unit 292nd JASCO saw intense fighting in the Pacific Theater during WWII and was instrumental in providing critical air-Sea-Ground communications during seven major invasions on the islands of Corregidor, Laity, Guadalcanal, Luzon. After the war he worked at the Navy Yard in a highly classified position. In the 1960’s he opened the Capital Hill Shade Shop in Washington, D.C. He lived all his life in Washington, D.C. and was a TRUE Washingtonian. Michael John Cusato, Sr. is preceded in death by his parents Carmelo and Christina, three sisters Mary, Phyllis and Pena and 5 brothers Fred, Carmenuce, Nicholas, Dominic and Steve.Michael John Cusato Sr., is survived by his five sons; Michael (Christina) Cusato of Falls Church, VA, Nicholas (Joyce) Cusato of Waldorf, MD, John (Barbara) Cusato of Chantillyy, VA, Gerald (Joe Ellen) Cusato of Greensboro, NC, and Anthony (Valerie) Cusato of Annapolis, MD. His sister, Rose Sullivan of New Market, VA and his brother John Cusato of Clinton, MD. His 12 Grandchildren and many Great- Grandchildren and nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Doctors and Nursing Staff at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, DC.
