Michael Bernard Davis died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at the age of 60, at United Medical Center in Washington, DC. Michael is survived by Sheila Sheppard (the love of his life); his daughter, Alana James (Florida), Maria Sheppard and Jahsaun Stratton (who he helped raise since they were both very young); his mother, Elizabeth Fields; step-mother, Ruth Davis; sisters, Dany Davis, Alisa Davis, and Tarey Houston; brother, Ian Davis; aunts, Joyce Hall, Donna Davis, and Christine Rami (Scotland); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Joseph B. Davis; brother, Anthony Davis; his paternal grandparents Joseph R. Davis and Evelyn Hankley; and maternal grandparents James and Chrissie Sutherland (Scotland). Michael was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on November 27, 1958, to Joseph B. Davis and Elizabeth A. Fields. He lived in several foreign countries as a young boy (such as Scotland, France, and Spain), before settling in the Washington metropolitan area. He graduated from Crossland High School, in Temple Hills, Maryland, in 1976. Throughout the years, Michael attended college (one class at a time), and he had accumulated numerous college credits by attending classes in philosophy, art, and American and world history. Michael was an extremely-talented artist by nature. Self-taught, he enjoyed spending his time drawing and painting in oil, as well as creating other interesting objects of art, especially using wood. Over the years, Michael enhanced his natural artistic talent in woodworking and large-scale sign-building. In fact, some of the elaborate wooden doors that he helped create was once showcased in a poster called the “Doors of Washington, DC.” Michael was an outdoors person, who loved to camp out and fish whenever the weather permitted. Recently, he enjoyed his job as a fabricator where he could continue to make use of his many artistic talents. Michael was an avid reader. People knew Michael to be very knowledgeable on most every topic of discussion, and he enjoyed having challenging conversations with anyone he met. Michael will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
