Michael G. Ponton

Of Brandywine, MD. Michael G. Ponton went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2014 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He was 60 years old. Mike was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital on August 3, 1953 to Ivan G. Ponton and Ellen M. (McFarland) Ponton.Mike was a life member of the Clinton, MD Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from Ft. Belvoir Fire and Emergency Services in 2003 after 30 years of service. He was the Fire Marshall and Chief Arson Inspector at the time of his retirement.Mike is survived by his sister Sue (Chuck) Pavelka of Kenesaw, NE; son Christopher G. Ponton of North East, MD; daughter Ashley M. Ponton of Washington, DC; granddaughters Aubrey Ogle of Owings, MD and Leilani Woomer of Washington, DC; Uncle Lee and Aunt Evelyn Coulson of Baltimore, MD, Aunt Barbara Ponton of Monticello, NY, Aunt Odetta Walker of Morganton, NC; Nephew, wife and children, Dane, Kristen, Kelly and Drew Doty of Sioux City, Iowa, Nephew and wife David and Nicole Doty of Sprague, NE; best friends Mike and Lisa Kriner and family; numerous cousins, friends from Clinton, Ft. Belvoir and other Fire Departments and family angel Pearl Carlson.He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Fireman’s Memorial Service at 7 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home, Inc. Clinton, MD where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 10 a.m.Memorials may be given to the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department 9025 Woodyard Rd. Clinton, MD 20735.
