Mildred, affectionately and fondly known to some, as Sarah Mae. Mildred was born July 10, 1934 to Ashby Rawlings. Jr. and Frances Kent in Owings, Md. Mildred joyfully celebrated her 90th birthday with friends and family. God called her from labor to reward on October 27, 2024 after a short illness.
Mildred spoke often of her upbringing on the farm. She was no stranger to hard work, which well-equipped her for her future career in nursing.
Mildred graduated from Brooks High School in Prince Frederick, MD. She held different jobs in her adult life. She talked of an early job in particular as a salad girl, which fueled her love for cooking. Mildred was a great cook and also loved canning and making homemade ice cream. She took great pleasure in cooking for the holidays and birthday dinners for her children and would fix whatever they requested. This tradition was continued into her late 80’s.
Mildred became a nursing assistant and was employed at the Children’s Center in Washington, DC. She went on to become a Registered Nurse after graduating from Marymount College. Mildred had a successful and rewarding career at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Washington, DC for 33 years and retired in 1997. As retirement neared, Mildred was given the opportunity to have her dream house built and came back home to Calvert County. She loved nature and being outdoors. She looked forward to feeding her Koi fish in her pond. She grew and maintained a large garden as long as she was able.
Mildred loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Jesus The Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Owings, MD. She was a faithful lecturer for Mass. She was a Carmelite for many years and was faithful attending her monthly meetings in D.C. Mildred served the eucharist to patients at Calvert Hospital in Prince Frederick and to her beloved church members who were homebound.
Mildred had a strong faith. During her brief illness you could hear and see her faith as she prayed the Lord’s Prayer often, asked the Lord Jesus to help her and did her Hail Mary’s and talked to God about being His friend for many years. While in the hospital and Rehab you could hear her say, “Rejoice, rejoice.”
Mildred is predeceased by her parents, her husband Raymond Stubbs, two brothers, Benjamin Darnell Thomas and Ashby Rawlings III and one sister, Thelma Gray, and her youngest daughter, Karen Turner. Mildred leaves to cherish her memory, one sister Ann Randall, her children Carla Patricia Rawlings-Rye (Michael) of Silver Spring, MD. Rosalind Laverne Snyder (Randolph-deceased) of Pasadena, MD. Harry Edward Stubbs (Tarschela) of Owings Mills, MD. Grandchildren, Cherae Jones, Rachelle Thornton, Robyn Smith, Harrison Stubbs, Kaia Turner and Kevon Turner, Great grandchildren, Ahja, Royal, Raven, Walter, Alyssa and Alexandra. A host of beloved relatives and long-term friends; her church family and lovingly those who adopted her as “Mom” Mildred.
Mildred fought the good fight and finished her race.

Mother,
God blessed me to have you in my life and I am thankful for you being my wonderful, amazing mother. I will miss you dearly on this earth as I continue my life’s journey without you. It will be so sad and lonely not seeing your face or hearing your voice. But God will keep me and the family.
I will remember all you taught me and especially treasure our last 9 weeks together. I will embrace one of our favorite scriptures, Psalm 118:24 – “This is the day the Lord has made, and we will rejoice and be glad in it. One day you said, “Trisha, rejoice, rejoice. Mother, yes, I will rejoice until we see each other again.
Loving You Always,
Your Eldest Daughter,
Trisha
