Mildred Amanda Wheatley\n \n1917-2009\n \nLifelong resident of Clinton, MD. daughter of Mildred Middleton Wheatley and James C. Wheatley and sister of brother James E. Wheatley, all of whom preceded her in death . She is survived by cousins Christina G. Evald, Paul A. Gwynn, David H. Gwynn, Connie Hyde, and T. Bert Middleton, Jr. Also survived by Nancy Oursler Schillings and Amanda Machen and numerous second cousins. She suffered a very long illiness.\n \nMiss Wheatley graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1934. She graduated 1938 from Western Maryland College, Westminster, MD with a teaching diploma. She taught in Prince Georges County, MD at Maryland Park High School until she joined the Waves in 1942. She was discharged at the end of World War II in 1946. That year she was employed by East Stroudsburg Univerisity in Pennsylvania as a professor of English. There she rose to Dean of Women and eventually became General Dean and was assigned later to overall Dean with Administrative Offices. She retired in 1975.\n \n Miss Wheatley was a lifelong member of Christ Church, Clinton, MD. A Memorial service will be conducted at Christ Church at 11:00 A.M. on October 7, 2009.
