Nery Piedad Binghay of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away at Southern Maryland Hospital on April 6, 2016. Her husband and sons were at her side. Born in Riobamba, Ecuador, South America. Nery Piedad was the only daughter of the late Segundo and Mariana Ramirez Noboa. Nery Piedad grew up in Quito, Ecuador. She graduated high school from the Colegio Maria Auxiliadora in Quito, and taught elementary school for 2 years before receiving a scholarship to study nursing at the Universidad de Antiochia in Medellin, Colombia. Nery Piedad stayed on as Nursing faculty for one year before moving to Washington DC to continue nursing studies at Catholic University in 1960. While studying, Nery Piedad worked at Providence and Georgetown hospitals. Nery Piedad resided at the Rosary House of Studies Dominican Sisters convent where she began life long friendships with ladies she met there. These friendships have remained with them throughout their lives and have kept in touch right up until her death. Nery Piedad , met and married Dr. Ben Binghay from the Philippines.. They were married in St. Anthony’s Church in Washington DC. Together they celebrated almost 53 years of marriage. Nery Piedad was the beloved mother of Marianela (deceased), Mary Caroline, Ben Gregory and Paul Edward, Loving Grandmother of Liam Alexander, also survived by cousins Maria Carmen Ramirez Torres, Maria Mercedes Saa Noboa, and Mario Noboa. Nery Piedad will be remembered as a strong and kind person who loved to travel and liked to add to her collection of porcelain figurines from every place she has visited. Her family was most important and she devoted her life to her husband and children. Nery Piedad suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis for 37 years.
