It was enormous sadness, we share that Nolan Gene DePhillip “Gino” passed away in his home on the morning of October 22, 2023, with his wife right by his side. Gino was born on July 15, 1946, in Oakland, California, to his loving parents, Anthony and Audrey DePhillip (Hackshaw).
Gino met his soon to be wife, Trisha O’Connor at a VFW in Capitol Heights, MD in July 1975, by 1976 they bought a home together in Forestville, MD (lived there for 18 years) and on August 11, 1978, Gino married the love of his life in the place where they met, VFW Post 1627. Then in 1994 moved to Owings, MD. Where they bought a piece of land and built a beautiful home. Married for 45 years and during that time enjoyed raising two sons and the lord knows how many furry and feathered children.
Gino joined the U.S. Navy from 1968 – 1972 and served on the USS Fulton in New London, CT.
Survived by his wife of 45 years, Trisha; sons John DePhillip (Stacy) of Huntingtown, MD., Russ Fennelly (Melissa) of Annapolis, MD; six grandchildren, Kendall, Ryan, Marisa, Mikalyla, Cole, JP; four great grandchildren. Seven Brothers, Richard & Carolyn of Accokeek, MD; Bobby & Pat of Owings, MD, Jimmy of Charlotte Hall, MD, Billy & Carol of Myrtle Beach, SC., Lucky & Connie of Hughesville, MD., Donnie & Darlene of Owings, MD, Michael & Brandy of Great Mills, MD, Timmy & Gabby of Waldorf, MD; two Sisters, Sharon Agee of Edgewater, MD, Diane & Rodney Hess of La Plata, MD; brothers-in-law’s Joe & Julie O’Connor of Sun City, CA, and Mike & Jill O’Connor of Los Oso, CA. and many nieces and nephews and bambino’s. He was loved by sooooooo many.
Gino was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Audrey DePhillip (Hackshaw) and his brother Tony & sister-in-law Bobbi DePhillip; brother-in-law Dave Agee.
Gino had a loving heart for his many furry & feathers children. Max (was his everything), Casey (escaped when boyfriend called from the top of the hill and off to the pond they went), Lucy (our best black girl ever), Homer (our great, Great Dane, Sydney (loyal companion for 30 years, Elvis (our clown), Cal-Girl (she was his side kick).
Gino really did not know how to retire. He would retire on a Friday and start a new job on Monday, and he did this three times over 67 years of telephone service.
Hobbies, where do we start? Everyone who knew Gino knew how much passion he had for cooking, especially Manicotti on New Year’s Day for all to enjoy and there would be a house full of friends and family. Gino looked forward to the three summer holidays to throw horseshoes at Lucky’s home with the family. Also love the competitiveness of darts and shooting pool with anyone that was up to the challenge. Gino loved being one with mother nature in the vegetable garden. Last but not least he loved spending time tinkering and working on his tractors because as Gino would say, “Trisha royally f@#$ed them up”. The End!
