Norsis S. Shannon

Norsis Syrenia Shannon left us on Friday July 24, 2020 to continue her walk with Jesus. Our loving “Aunt Boot” as she was known to by an abundance of nieces and nephews. She was “Granma” by her grands and great grands”. Or “Shannon” as her friends and coworkers called her. Her sisters and brothers gave her the nickname “Boot”. Norsis was born on June 14, 1937 in Edgefield, South Carolina. She was the sixth child out of eight, born to the late Natha Lee Johnson and Cleveland Q. Johnson. Now leaving the baby Shirley A. Brooks, who was her dedicated sister and caregiver for many years, and one sister - in-law Dorothy Johnson. Norsis was educated in South Carolina public schools. She met her closest classmates Frances Holloway and Pearl Lee at Ridgehill High School in Ridge Springs, SC. Norsis worked as a lead cook at the Hounds Lake Country Club in Aiken, SC. After moving to Washington, DC she worked multiple jobs, continuing as a lead cook for Varsity Restaurant. Later becoming a laundry specialist for the Hyatt Regency and at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC. Norsis loved to travel. In 2005 her travels included a wonderful trip to Africa with her niece Iris and her great nephew Terrance. Road trips to South Carolina and New York. Attending Senior Fun Camps every summer, and short casino trips all year round with her sister Shirley and friends JoAnn and Joan. And of course a cruise every year. Noris found her church home close by in Suitland, Maryland, Galilee Baptist Church where Rev. Dr. Lloyd T. McGriff officiates. If you want to know her true profession it was blessing you with her smile and cracking you up with that laugh of hers. She also could bake some delicious sweet potato pies, and no to forger her famous macaroni and cheese. MMMM,MMMM. She was briefly married to Thomas Shannon. Norsis leaves to cherish her memory, an only child Calvin T.
