Oscar F. Dobson 89, of Clinton, MD, died at the Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home, on February 28, 2014. He was born in Dargan, MD on August 27, 1924. He was one of four children born to Alice R Knight. He attended Dargan School until graduating from eighth grade. Around 1940 he left Dargen and moved to Washington D.C. and found a job with the railroad. In Washington, he met the love of his life, Evelyn May Hallock, and they married on February 27, 1943. He was inducted into the United States Army on March 27, 1943 and was sent to Fort Leonard Wood Missouri for training. He was shipped to England as a member of the 4th Infantry Division, 1st Battalion, 12th Regiment, F Company. Oscar was a light machine gunner and saw action in Normandy, Northern France, the Argonne Forest and Rhineland. Luckily, he was admitted into the hospital with frost bitten feet just prior to the Battle of the Bulge. Upon recuperation he was reassigned to the 701st Engineering Petroleum Distribution Company and returned to the United States January 23, 1946. Oscar was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. In 20O1 he was presented the French Normandy Jubilee of Liberty Medal and in 2005 he was presented with a Diploma from the French Secretary of Defense thanking him for his part in the liberation of France. After returning home, Oscar again worked for the railroad and a son was born in November. He and Evelyn had a daughter 1952. By this time Oscar had moved into the sheet metal trade, relocated to MD and eventually owned Dobson Heating and Air Conditioning Center in Clinton retiring at the age of 70. Oscar was a man who loved his family and called everyone friend. He rode a motorcycle, owned a boat and a horse, always drove a Buick, excelled at bowling, pitching horseshoes, and rarely lost a game of 500 rummy. He was a devoted Washington Redskin's and Baltimore Orioles fan and loved his Maryland steamed crabs. He was a Life Member of BPOE Camp Springs Lodge #2332, and American Legion Post #259 in Clinton Maryland. Oscar was predeceased by Evelyn in 2005 after 62 years of marriage and one great grandchild. He is survived by his son John and wife Mary Jo, daughter Linda and husband Ken, grandchildren Renee, Jason, Denice, Carly and Lindsey and nine and one half great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Lee Funeral Home, Inc., Branch Avenue and Coventry Way, Clinton, MD on Tuesday, March 11th from 2 to 4 pm & 6 to 8 pm with an Elks Service and an American Legion Service at 7.00 pm where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 12th at 12:30 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD at 2 pm.Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
