Patrice Ann Kirkland passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 26, 2024, just shy of turning 91 Years Young.Patrice "Pat" Ann Kirkland was born in Washington, DC on November 3, 1933 to Henry Otis Kirkland Sr. and his wife, Josephine Cave Kirkland. Her father was in the army and they traveled from base to base but came back to Ft. Myers, Virginia and settled in the Arlington,Virginia area.
Pat graduated from Washington-Lee High School in 1951. She attended George Washington University where she was on the rifle team. Pat worked for the Federal Government for several years before she met and married Raymond Giovannoni in October 1957. They took their boat, the Miss No Name, to Daytona Beach, Florida to live. Soon after, they welcomed a son, Joseph Americo "Rick" Giovannoni on August 4, 1958. When they separated and divorced in 1967, Patrice moved back to Virginia with Rick, where she settled and lived independently for many years.
Pat studied and became a realtor She sold many new houses in the Northern Virginia area, making quite a name for herself and was well known in the community. When Rick was building restaurants in Richmond, Virginia, Pat moved there to help him and continue real estate there. While Pat was not much of a flier, that never stopped her from traveling. During her time in Richmond, Pat drove cross country visiting a majority of the United States National Parks and Forests. She loved to be on the open road and travel. There are so many pictures to chronicle her adventures.
In 2006, Pat made the decision to downsize and moved to Accokeek, Maryland to live with her Son and his Family. There she lived for 18 years, never letting go of her independence. She continued to travel and visit friends in Texas and Florida for many years, with Maryland as her home base. When she could no longer travel, she still kept to her independent routines and enjoyed simple pleasures, like smoking a cigarette or spending a weekend at the Rod and Reel. Her grandchildren kept her young; it was not uncommon to find her hanging out by the pool with her Grandson, Maxx, and all of his high school friends. She loved playing board games and spending time with her family and friends. Life was never dull with her. She loved to be mischievous and make people laugh. She was not your traditional Grandmother, but she could always teach you something new or drop a bit of wisdom on you every now and then.
Pat is pre-deceased by her son, Rick Giovannoni and is survived by her grandchildren, Savannah (Josh) and Maxx (Samira), along with Daughter in-Law, Sherry. She was our Matriarch, our head of the table, our solace, and our sense of humor. She will be remembered by all who knew her and missed by all who loved her.
Feel no guilt in laughter, she knows how much you care.
Feel no sorrow in a smile that she's not here to share.
You cannot grieve forever, she would not want you to.
She'd hope that you can carry on, the way you always do.
So talk about the good times and the ways you showed you cared.
The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared.
