Phyllis I. McGown of Owings, Maryland passed away on November 4, 2009. Phyllis fought a long and courageous battle with Leukemia, which she defeated with the help of the National Institutes of Health. Although there were no signs of cancer, her new immune system could not ward off the various infections that she encountered on her way to full recovery. Phyllis was and always will be the loving Mother of Kimberly (Kimberly Blackistone) and Daniel McGown. The faithful companion of William “Bill” McGown. Devoted daughter of Patricia and Albert Cook.\n Phyllis served her country as a member of the United States Air Force and the District of Columbia Air National Guard until she medically retired. For many years she served her community as a volunteer and professional emergency medical technician with the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department.\nFamily will receive friends on Tuesday, November 10 fron 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
