A smile for all, a heart of gold One of the best this world could hold. Never selfish, always kind These are the memories you left behind. Ralph King Phillips, son of the late Lorraine (King) Brown, was born March 25, 1934 in Newport News, Virginia. He received his high school diploma in June of 1952 from Huntington High School in Newport News, Virginia, and a Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1958 from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia. He was employed in many capacities for the Federal Government from 1961 until his retirement from the General Services Administration in June of 1986. He provided more than 40 years of faithful service. He continued his career as the director of Child Care Development until its closure. He served in the U.S. Army from August of 1958 until his honorable discharge in January of 1965, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ralph was received in full membership to the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, D.C. on May 9, 1965. Very quietly and peacefully, on May 29, 2016 at Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, Maryland, God in His infinite wisdom opened the gates of heaven and called one of His own home – Ralph King Phillips. He leaves to cherish fond memories: a loving and devoted companion of 40 years, Michael George Brown; one brother, Michael A. Brown (Jennifer), and many other relatives and friends.
