Renda L Sasscer

Renda Louise Gossett Sasscer, 82, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 18, 2025.

Born on June 5, 1942, in Maryland, Renda was the daughter of the late David Lee Gossett and Lucy Mae Dunsmore Gossett. She was one of two children and was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Donald Gossett. Renda grew up in Clinton, Maryland, where she spent her early years.

On July 16, 1959, Renda married the love of her life, the late Merle Lusby Sasscer of Upper Marlboro. The couple met at a youth rally at Cedarville Assembly of God and soon eloped to North Carolina—Renda was just 16, and Merle was 19. They went on to share 66 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with five children: Roberta, Richard, Sue, Melinda, and Pam. Renda and Merle also opened their hearts and home as foster parents.

Renda attended Surrattsville High School and later returned to night school to complete her diploma. Once her children were older, she pursued a career in nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked as a substitute teacher and later served as an LPN at Medserve and the Prince George's County Health Department, where she worked at the Hillcrest Heights Special Center until her retirement.

Renda’s life was defined by her deep faith in God and her love for family. A devoted follower of Christ, Renda had a personal relationship with Jesus and desired the same for everyone she knew. For 58 years, she was a dedicated member of Trinity Assembly of God, where she raised her family, taught children’s church for over 20 years, and led the Women’s Ministry.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Renda encouraged those around her to believe in themselves, live with purpose, and follow God’s guidance.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Roberta Sasscer, Richard Sasscer (Joyce Sasscer), The late Sue Petric (Mark Petric), Melinda Sheranko (Matthew Sheranko), and Pamela Mancini (Russell Mancini) Cherished grandmother of: Heidi Archer, Jessica Sasscer, Holly Archer, Daniel Petric, Michael Sasscer, Eric Sheranko, Lauren Wallace (Garrett Wallace), Alex Sheranko, Mackenzie Mancini, and Rachael Mancini. Adored great-grandmother of: Ayla Archer, Titus Archer, Ivan Archer, Luvia Archer, and Laney Archer.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Renda’s life during visitation on Thursday

April 24, 2025, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Rd, Clinton, MD 20735.

There will be visitation on Friday, April 25 at 10:00 AM, followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at Trinity Assembly of God, 7800 Good Luck Rd, Lanham, MD 20706.

Interment will immediately follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601.
