Ricardo Carnell Ransom was born on October 8, 1966, to Jerold Ransom and Sandra Ransom (nee McIllwain) in Washington, DC. Ricardo was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools System. As a youngster, he discovered his love of music and was a talented trombone player. He grew up playing music in the church. He was a member of the D.C. Youth Orchestra as well as the southeast Marching Band and the McKinley Technical High School Marching Band. His musical talent earned him a scholarship to the historically Black, Christian College, Saint Augustine University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Ricardo was a member of the Saint Augustine’s Marching Band. While at Saint Augustine, Ricardo became a proud brother of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Ricardo continued and completed his academic endeavors at the Southeastern University where he received his B.S. in General Science and MBA in Marketing. Ricardo also studied at the Capital Bible Seminary focusing in the area of Christian Care Ministry. Ricardo enjoyed careers at Chevy Chase Bank, Chrysler Financial and United Parcel Service. He held positions in customer service, financial services, and management. One of the last projects that Ricardo worked on was customizing his 2012 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 that was lovely known as “Black Girl Magic”. Ricardo also loved playing chess, watching the Golden State Warriors, and debating sports and world events among family and friends. Finally, Ricardo was a lifelong Washington Commanders (Redskins) fan.
Ricardo found his greatest passion in serving the Lord and His People. Ricardo, as a young boy, was baptized under the late Bishop Thomas M. Conway of the Holy Commandments Church of God, Seventh Day. His Christian experience also included memberships, in New Psalmist Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD, The Soul Factory Church, Forestville, MD (Pastors Deron and Jill Cloud). At the Soul Factory Church, Ricardo served as the Youth Summer Camp Ministry Assistant Director, Mentor/Role Model, Armor Bearer, and Church Security. Most recently Ricardo worshipped at the Bethel Deliverance Outreach Ministries (BDOM) under the leadership of Bishop Alonzo M. Walker, Sr. Ricardo served on BDOM’s Men’s Ministry and Outreach Ministries.
Ricardo is preceded in death by his father, Jerold E. Ransom. Ricardo leaves behind to mourn a dutiful wife, Karen Ransom (nee Evans). A faithful and loving son Jarred Dion Ransom along with one grandson Dion Joseph and granddaughter Raina Elizabeth. A bonus son Joseph Hughes (Beth) along with two grandsons Gavin and Tatum and one granddaughter Madison. His loving mother Sandra Ransom along with his devoted brothers Edward Ransom, Sr. (Marlene), Marquette Ransom (Vandelyn). His dedicated sisters, Natasha Ransom (Rodney Simmons) and Jerkisha Watson (Robert). Ricardo was heavily involved in raising/mentoring his nephews Edward Ransom, Jr., Trevonne Simmons, Peshawn Stokes, Jermaine Mintz and Destin Simmons and a host of more nephews. He also devoted time to his nieces Sharonda Ransom, ShaKeena Gordon, Jernisha Mintz, Indya Ransom, Destinee Simmons, Latrice Smith, Jasantae Watson, Joydan Watson, JaNaiah Watson and Journye Watson along with a host of more nieces. There are many aunts, uncles, great nieces, great nephews, and a host of friends who are left to mourn the passing of this amazing man. Ricardo will be remembered as a protective husband, the “family connection”, an honest, “no nonsense” man, and a lifetime friend. He loved the Lord, and he is now resting amongst the angels. We know we will see him again in Glory.
