Richard John Schumacher

Richard J. Schumacher,96 of Clinton, MD, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 2, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD.Richard was born August 1918 in Sigel, IL, the son of Bernard “Ben” and Katherine “Kate” (Schutte) Schumacher. He married Evelyn Fearday on January 11, 1941. Richard was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Clinton, MD. He was past president of the Clinton Lions Club.Richard was dedicated to his family and faith. He was very proud of his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always loved to share a joke and put a smile on people’s face. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid gardener, deriving great satisfaction from sharing the bounty and beauty which his gardens produced. As an engineer for the Navy, he enjoyed solving problems and designing solutions, including solar experiments that flew in NASA’s skylab program.Richard is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Clinton, MD; 5 children, Dorothy Smith, Alice Schumacher, Jane Schumacher, James Schumacher and William (Laura) Schumacher siblings, Theresa Walk, Martha Niemerg; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schumacher and Helen Schumacher, Patricia Schumacher; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews also survive. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Grace Lamkin, Harold Schumacher, Bernard Schumacher, John Schumacher, Bernice Fearday-Wilkins, Katherine “Katie” Gadel and Anna Probst; and grandson, Richard M.
