Richard Calvin Swann Jr.

Richard “Sonny” Calvin Swann, Jr. of Churchton, MD passed away gracefully on October 4, 2022, at the age of 83.  Born on December 2, 1938, to the late Calvin and Helen Swann, Sonny was raised in Washington, DC. It is there that he met the love of his life, Betty Ann Cady.  Sonny and Betty recently celebrated 66 years of marriage this past June.

Sonny retired from Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) as a master plumber/inspector.  He enjoyed hunting, working with his tools, reading Westerns and spending time with his family.  He was a diehard Redskins fan.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Barr, Peggy Burkhart, Jean Linthicum, Pat Hall and Dorothy Sue.  Sonny is survived by his children Betty Greenwell (Chuck), John Swann (Carla), Jim Swann (Cindy-deceased), Joe Swann (Debi), Jack Swann (Kelly) and Barbara Mendez (Mario).  He is also survived by his brother James Swann, 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to Sonny’s Life Celebration on Monday, October 10, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Lee Funeral Home Calvert 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 and Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church 8816 Chesapeake Avenue, North Beach, MD where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue Suitland, MD 20746.
