Rita Montgomery Boice

January 17, 1930 — September 8, 2022

Rita Montgomery Boice (92) passed away on September 8, 2022, after a brief illness.

Born to the late Robert and Josephine Early Montgomery in Brandywine, Maryland.

Rita was gifted with a musical talent of being able to play multiple instruments, but her passion was playing the piano and organ, and did so beautifully.

While attending Upper Marlboro High School, she met her husband John I. Boice, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1990.  In Upper Marlboro, they raised their five children.

Rita was a hard worker and dedicated employee. She served as a bank teller in Prince George’s County for more than 40 years.

In her retirement, she enjoyed listening to music, spending time with her family and rooting for her favorite college football team — Notre Dame.

She is survived by her children: John, Stephen, Pamela, Denise, and Ivy; 7 Grandchildren; 8 Great-grandchildren; and sister Joan.

Rita saw the good in her family and everyone she met. The smallest things in life made her happy.   She was a great wife, mother, and grandmother.

Rita will always be remembered as a gentle and kind soul.

The family will receive friends at St. Mary’s the Assumption Catholic Church 14908 Main Street, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery 8000 Woodyard Road Clinton, MD 20735.
