Robert Allen Campbell, Sr.

Robert Allen Campbell, Sr. was born on September 5, 1914 in his parents’ home at 1602 E. Street, S.E. (Washington, D.C.) He was the youngest of Pauline and Frank L. Campbell’s seven boys.\n \nHe attended D.C. public schools and graduated from Eastern High School in 1943. He captained the Eastern High School football team and was an All-Inter High tackle, he also threw shot put, discus, and ran the quarter mile for the track team.\n \nIn the summer of 1936, he met his wife, Sadie in Suitland, MD. She, at the time, was a nursing student at the Capital City School of Nursing (Gallinger Hospital). The couple was married in Fairfax, Va. on May 29, 1937.\n \nMr. and Mrs. Campbell raised their three sons in the Silver Hill – Suitland area. Their youngest son, William Ladd, was killed in Vietnam in March, 1967. The other two sons, Robert Allen and Edmund Scott, were educators in Prince Georges and Charles counties.\n \nMr. Campbell was a 45 year employee at the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. He was a lineman/line foreman mostly at the company’s Oakie Street facility (D.C.) He was a long-standing member of the Pioneers Club. He was also a Mason in good standing for sixty years with Naval Lodge No. 4 (D.C.)\n \nIn his retirement years, he and his wife purchased a second home in Morven, N.C. They traveled extensively for years and were avid gardeners. Mrs. Campbell passed away on February 11, 2005. Mr. Campbell moved to Leonardtown in 2007 where he lived with his son, Edmund Scott, and his daughter-in-law, Dr. Barbara Campbell.\n \nMr. Campbell was devoted to his sons, Robert A., E. Scott and William L.; his grandchildren; Robyn Miller, Tamara Campbell, Billy Joe Aris, Michael Campbell, Jerrold Campbell, and Catherine Campbell. He was also survived by eleven great grandchildren and on great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by great grand daughter, Rachael Campbell. He also loved greatly all of the Noah Williamson family in North and South Carolina.\n \nServices and Interment took place in Wadesboro, N.C.
