Robert "Bob" Giaquinto

January 20, 1927 — September 3, 2011

Bob Giaquinto, a resident of Fort Washington, MD since 1950, passed away on Saturday September 3, 2011 at Calvert Memorial Hospital. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Buckler Giaquinto, as well as his brothers Ernest and Norman. Mr. Giaquinto leaves behind 4 children: Robbie, Marie, Lisa and John. Additionally, he is survived by 2 grandchildren, Jessica and Sean (and his wife Susan), and his 3 beloved great-grandchildren, Michael, Aidan and Owen. Other immediate relatives include his brother-in-law Jeffrey Buckler and Bob’s companion Lucy O’Bryhim of LaPlata, MD. \nBob was born on January 20, 1927 in Washington, DC to the late Attilio and Martha Giaquinto. Bob’s formative years were spent in the family’s independent grocery business where Bob developed his deep seated work ethic and discipline. After the family’s business was destroyed in the riots of 1968, Bob joined the civil service as a plumber at Bolling Air Force Base where he served many high ranking military officials for 20 years. \nBob’s favorite hobby - by far - was bowling! At one point, Bob was bowling in 4 leagues, at the AMF Bowling Center in Waldorf, MD. He greatly enjoyed his senior bowling leagues, including the Golden Keglers. Bob achieved many bowling related awards and citations, including rolling a 299 game. He always said he was happy not to have bowled a perfect “300” because he would have had nothing for which to strive. Bob also loved to fish any kind of water and after his wife’s death continued the family’s baking traditions. Bob’s specialty was a rum cake which was highly sought after by his bowling companions for their holiday and end-of-season parties. \nBob’s ingenuity and creativity in solving all sorts of problems, whether plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or mechanical in nature will be sorely missed. Bob’s easy going, helpful and friendly nature will be missed most of all. \nVisitation at Lee Funeral Home, Owings, MD will be held Friday September 9, 2011 from 12 noon until 8 pm. Memorial services will be at Lee Funeral Home chapel on Saturday September 10, 2011 beginning at 10 am with burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD immediately following memorial services. \nContributions in honor of Bob may be made to Calvert Hospice, P.O. Box 838, Prince Frederick, MD 20678. \n \n \n \n To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Robert "Bob" Giaquinto please visit our Sympathy Store.
