Ronald Earl Swingler, Sr. (78) passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 after being hospitalized in a Washington D.C. hospital. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the beloved son of Earl A. Swingler Sr. and Vala Jean Swingler of Fork, MD. Ron is survived by two brothers, David C. Swingler, Sr. (JoAnn) and Timothy D. Swingler, Sr. (Nancy), and preceded in death by Earl A. Swingler, Jr (brother). Ron retired from the Navy after a 20 year career. He began his naval career as an Airplane Engine Mechanic and achieved status as Flight Engineer while servicing with Patrol Squadron 48 in Moffett Field, CA. After retiring from the Navy, Ron worked repairing jet engines at the Norfolk Naval Air Repair Center. Ron loved to golf, and took pride in winning the Club Championship. Ron also loved the Baltimore Orioles and watching John Wayne movies. He will be missed by all who loved him. He leaves behind his beloved wife Virginia K. Swingler of California, MD, son Ronald E. Swingler, Jr., of Jacksonville, FL and beloved daughter Vala Jean Journigan (Randy) of Virginia Beach, VA. Ron also leaves behind five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Graveside Service with United States Naval Honors will be held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623 on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. NEW GUIDELINES FOR ATTENDING VISITATION / SERVICES. - 50 to 75 people max at any given time in Funeral Home. - Limit visitation to 15 minutes in visitation room to allow for others to express their condolences. - Funeral Services in Chapel limited to 70 people with four (4) people per pew. - Masks and six-foot social distancing still applies.
