Rosalee Elizabeth Irvin

August 3, 1946 — October 12, 2014

Rosalee Evans Irvin peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2014 ending her brave and courageous battle with cancer. She was in her home showered by the love and presence of her family. Born on August 3, 1946, Rosalee was the daughter of the late Warner and Ellen Evans of Ware Neck, (Gloucester) Virginia. At an early age, she accepted Christ, was baptized and became a member of the Union Zion Baptist Church, Ware Neck. Affectionately known as “Sister”, “Rose” or “Miss Rose”, Rosalee was married to Lloyd E. Irvin, Sr. for more than 20 years, and to this union one son, Lloyd E. Irvin, Jr. was born. Rosalee was educated in the Gloucester County Public Schools and graduated from Thomas C. Walker School. She also attended Cortez Peters Business School in Washington, D.C. She loved life and maintained an active lifestyle for all of her years. In her earlier years after studying business, she lived abroad, modeled and participated in numerous health and fitness activities. Rosalee retired from a career in finance years ago, but never retired from working, supporting family and friends and participating in their lives, or from actively enjoying life. She was a dedicated key staff member of Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts and always gave her “no-nonsense” motherly love, guidance and support –not only to Lloyd, Jr.—but also to his students, team members, friends, and parents of the school. She was always an advocate of and for youth and young adults. She was also a true football enthusiast and a Number 1—Redskins fan. Sunday afternoon was her football focus time. And even though purple was her favorite color, on Sundays she proudly wore her Burgundy & Gold. Rosalee also loved to travel. Pictures from her annual trips were always a highlight for family members and friends to view upon her return. Rosalee was preceded in death by her parents and sister—Shirley Lemon. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Lloyd E. Irvin, Jr., daughter-in-law, Vicki Irvin and grandson, Lloyd E. Irvin, III of Accokeek, MD; sister, Wilhemenia Greene (Kelvin) of Commerce Township, MI; six brothers, Deleno Evans of Chesapeake, VA, George Evans (Virginia) of Virginia Beach, VA, William Evans of Hampton, VA, Calvin Evans (Gail) of Suffolk, VA, Michael Evans (Cynthia) of Yorktown, VA and Lowell Evans (Kathy) of Virginia Beach, VA; special aunt, Julia Grimes of Ware Neck, VA; brother- in-law, Henry Lemon of Hampton, VA and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Also left with cherished memories of their many years of companionship is her special friend John Tolson of Suitland, MD.
