Russell A. Mitchell

Russell A. Mitchell, 90, of Charlotte Hall, formerly from Prince Georges County, MD passed away peacefully on Dec. 21, 2013. One of twelve children born on March 9, 1923 in Clearfield, PA he was the son of the late Russell Charles and the late Teresa Mitchell.Russ joined the United States Air Force Band in 1942 as a clarinetist taking over the solo chair eight years later, a position he held until his retirement in 1968. After retiring from the military, Russ became the band director at La Reine High School in Suitland, MD enriching the lives of many students and residents within the community. Russ also performed throughout the Washington DC area with his musical group the Rhythm Aires for many years.Russ is survived by Mary Mitchell his wife of 68 years, daughter Barbara and son Russell James along with seven siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends for visitation at Lee Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, December 27 between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM and 6:00PM and 8:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 28 at 11AM at Saint Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Camp Springs, MD. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
