It is with great sorrow to announce that Salvatore “Sal” Di Pilla passed away on March 26, 2024, at the age of 83.
Sal leaves behind his loving wife Anna Maria (Ciccone), devoted son Sistilio “Leo” (Gina), adored grandson Nico Salvatore and many others to include brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Angela, his sister Rosina, brothers-in-law Remo and Orlando “Dino” Ciccone and sister-in-law Caterina “Rina” Ciccone Di Lisio.
Sal was born in 1941 in Italy to Sistilio & Angelina. He served in The Alpini, the Italian Army’s specialist mountain infantry before marrying his wife Anna Maria Ciccone in 1966. Shortly after marriage, the newlyweds immigrated to the Washington, DC metropolitan area, where he joined his wife’s brothers, Vince, Mario, Dino and Remo Ciccone. Soon to be followed to America by his only sister Rosina Di Pilla Zandi.
It was in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., an unfamiliar place, in an unfamiliar country, that Sal began to build a life and family together with his wife and two children (Leo and the late Angela), brick by brick. Sal was a devoted son, a loving husband, father, grandfather “Nonno”, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, uncle and friend. He was a talented, skillful Brickmason and he was proud to be an Italian, living the American dream with his family. He was passionate about his loved ones, spending time with his wife, going to Sunday Mass, time with his son Leo and grandson Nico Salvatore watching old James Bond movies, and watching his favorite sport --Soccer!
Sal will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. His legacy was a life well-lived, full of love for his family.
