Samuel Harvey Hunter, of Ft. Washington, MD passed on February 24, 2017 at the age of 87. Born in Salisbury, MD to Ida May (Day) Hunter and William David Hunter. Samuel met Treva, the love of his life, in 1944 when she lived in his mother’s boarding house in Takoma Park, MD. They married on December 4, 1944 and celebrated 68 years of marriage before her death in 2012. In 1945 he enlisted in the US Navy where he served for two years before re-enlisting in the US Marine Corp. After his discharge as a WWII veteran, he began working as a Civil Engineer with the Department of Defense at Andrews Air Force Base in Clinton, MD. He retired in 1986. Samuel was an active Elder in the Community of Christ Church in Washington, D.C. all of his adult life, and in this capacity, he served as Bishop’s Agent and Chairman of the Building Committee. Known as “Mr. Fix It”, he especially enjoyed repairing anything in need. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Hunter held a pilot’s license for small aircraft and an electrician’s license. He was a Notary Public for many years. One of the last things he said to his family was, ”My life was my family”. Beloved husband of the late Treva S. Hunter; devoted father of Scott Hunter (Kathy) of Ft. Washington, MD, Susan Khoury (Michael) of Lakeville, MN, and Craig Hunter (Karen) of Crofton, MD; dear brother of L. Edward Hunter and brother-in law of Roberta Hunte, Richard Scott and Stuart Scott; loving grandfather of Jeffrey, Dean and Stacie Hunter, Ryan and Allison Khoury, Matt Hunter and Kristin Bloom; great-grandfather of Sydney and Jackson Hunter, Tate and Ethan Hunter, Will and Hunter Khoury, Hunter, Camden and Paisley Bloom; step-grandfather of Taylor and Matt Kasik, and honorary grandfather of Adam and Samantha Wells.
