Sandra Mae Mountain, 89, of Waldorf, died October 29th, 2022, at home. She was the daughter of the late David Albert Hardester Jr. and Ethel Pasco Alexander Hardester. She was the wife of the late George Edwin Mountain, a U.S. Airforce veteran and U.S. Treasury Department civil servant. She traveled with her husband George overseas during his deployments abroad. She was a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Clinton. She enjoyed cooking for her loved ones, including eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Her recipe box is famous, with everyone in the family having their favorite. Sandra was naturally social and loved spending time in person or on the phone with her family and friends. She loved the quote, “My favorite people call me ‘Nana’” and there are many non-family members who call her by that name. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Edwin Mountain, her son, George D. (Rocky) Mountain, and her daughter Paula L. Vermeire. She is survived by her son, Steven D. Mountain, his wife, Ruth; her daughter, Georgette M. Rice, her husband, Mike; her grandchildren, Michelle, Victoria, David, Jason, Patrick, Aaron, Steven, and Jeremy; and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Lee Funeral Home, Clinton, on Monday, November 14th, from 10am to 12pm. Pastor Irv Clark will officiate. She will be buried on Monday, November 28th, at 1 PM, next to her husband, George, at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
