Sangob Parks

November 29, 1943 — April 8, 2024

Clinton

Sangob Parks passed away peacefully at Hospice of Chesapeake at the age of 80, after being surrounded by many family and friends, with her son Steven steadfast by her side. She was affectionately known by many names, including “Jid” by friends and “Yiyi” by her grandchildren. She had many roles, including a loving mother, grandmother, sister, avid bingo player, devoted gardener, and Air Force pastry chef.

Sangob was born in Nakhon Ratsima, Thailand, on November 29th, 1943. She left her small village with her beloved brother Loug Em “Sam” to go west to the bustling city of Bangkok. In Bangkok, she had two daughters, Mamn and Mimi. She met her late husband and the love of her life, Wayne Parks, when he was stationed at Nakhon Phanom as a Navy airman. In 1972, Sangob married Wayne and moved to Texas, where she gave birth to her son, Steven Parks, in 1974. Sangob and her family then relocated to various locations across the continental US, as well as Anchorage, Alaska and Okinawa, Japan. In 1980, Sangob settled in Maryland where she spent the rest of her life. She became a citizen of the United States on July 12th, 1985.

Sangob had a passion for gardening and spent much of her time tending to her large garden, which included trees representing each of her family members, as well as a pear tree and Thai chili plants. When not gardening, Sangob enjoyed cooking authentic Thai dishes for her loved ones, with her spring rolls being a particular favorite. She worked as a cook for the Air Force for over 20 years before retiring. Sangob was also a dog lover and owned small dogs with names such as Julie, Boy, Dede, and Lady. In much of her later years, she loved attending bingo every week.

Her cremated remains will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery alongside her late husband, Wayne Parks. She is survived by her grandchildren, Douglas and Dominique Ngo, her two sisters, and other close family and friends. Sangob is predeceased by her two daughters, husband, and four brothers, as well as many other beloved family and friends.
