Scott “Scottie” E. O’Neal (Msgt, USAF Ret.), Solomons, Maryland, passed away June 1, 2011 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, Maryland at the age of 93.\nHe was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on November 26, 1917, to Edward and Rose O’Neal.\nFor 64 years, he was the devoted and loving husband of Juanita (Norris) O’Neal, who passed away in July, 2010. He was the proud father of Patrick O’Neal and his wife, Barbara, of Waldorf, Maryland and grandfather of the late Kelly O’Brien.\nScottie was a retired Master Sergeant, enlisting in the Army cavalry at 16 years old and finishing his 20 year career in the United States Air Force. After his retirement, he continued working for the Air Force as a civilian.\nHe served in the Philippines during WWII and was held as a POW for 3 ½ years after his capture by the Japanese Forces at the surrender of Bataan and Corregidor, Philippine Islands. \nAwards and Decorations include: The Silver Star, Bronze Star w/V, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with two clusters, Presidential Unit Citation with two clusters, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Prisoner of War Medal, Infantry Combat Badge, Senior Airman Wings, Air force and Army Good Conduct Medals, Air Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Defense Medal with three stars, Expert Rifleman and Expert Pistol Medals.\nScottie was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Order of the Purple Heart and the Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Organization. He was also a member of the Asbury Investment Club and the Computer Club.\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury-Solomons Benevolent Care Fund, 11100 Asbury Circle, Solomons, MD 20688
