Sean Jerome Leak, 41, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, passed peacefully with his family by his side Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
Sean, aka Lil’ Sam, was born to Dorothy Mae Flemming Leak and the late John Leak on May 13, 1983, in Fort Washington, Maryland.
Sean graduated from Crossland High School, in Temple Hills, MD in 2003 and decided to follow in his parent’s footsteps by joining the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission. At MNCPPC, Sean enjoyed working diligently in park maintenance, construction, and landscaping, and had a love of being outside and beautifying whatever project was given to him.
Later in his career, he joined Ruppert Landscaping where he found an entire work family who enjoyed what he loved the most. Ruppert embraced him and his love of the outdoors and entrusted him with a variety of responsibilities that Sean both learned and benefitted from. Sean even gained the opportunity to later supervise others to learn and enjoy the very skills he himself obtained over the years.
But let’s take a step back to September 2000. Before graduating High School, Sean met the love of his life, Kala Marie Martin. This isn’t your run of the mill love story because they met during their alternative education after being expelled! Not a proud moment in their lives but they soon worked very hard to get back on track because they knew they had found their person. Sean knew he had to work fast, so told his momma, Dorothy May, that he needed money out of his savings account! Why? It was then that he called his Bro Mark to pick him up in the LD, pulled Kala from school and drove the back roads in Charles County, straight to Kay Jewelers where he purchased her engagement ring!
At the tender ages of 17 and 19 years old, they became husband and wife on June 21, 2002, and mother and father to their son Chai Kaijuan Jerome Leak. This was the beginning of an adventurous love together for 23 years. Chai became their pride and joy and if you look at him today, he is the mirror image of his father, same build, same smile, same ‘beard on the bottom’, just light-skinned like his momma. Just as in every marriage, there were tough times and fun times, many tears and lots of laughter, and through it all, they honored their vow to each other, for better and for worse, and together they were until Sean closed his eyes on February 26, 2025.
Sean loved to cook on the grill, washing his cars, and even in the rain, so much so that his momma would say to him “Sean, you gon’ wash the paint off!” Sean loved spending time with family, always encouraged and enjoyed family gatherings, cookouts, family trips, and having a good time whenever the opportunity arose. Now mind you, Sean was always late for everything! He was definitely going to show up but he got there when he got there.
Sean especially loved choppin’ it up with Vernon, his first cousin, though they were more like brothers. They did everything together, in and out of trouble, and shared their joy of fishing, and their love of cars.
Sean is survived by his loving wife, Kala, and son, Chai; his beautiful granddaughter Kyndell Kai’asia Leak, his mother Dorothy Mae Flemming Leak (John, deceased), brother John Willie Leak, Jr., sister Sherrie Leak, (sister Melissa Leak, deceased), nieces Talonda, Dayesha, Erika, and Tanaesha, and nephew Jon (JJ), and a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and close friends.
