Seconda Louise Moore
Seconda Louise (Connie) Moore, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and retired service member passed away on November 6, 2024, at the age of 72, after a brief battle with Leukemia.
Born on August 6, 1952, in Annapolis, Maryland, the daughter of Marvin Smith and Louise Powell Smith, Connie spent much of her childhood in France and Germany, with her parents and sisters, while her father was stationed there on active duty with the US Army. After returning to the US, she graduated from Cedartown High School (Cedartown, GA) in 1969, before joining the United States Air Force.
Connie touched countless lives through her many years of dedicated service to the
USAF/DCANG, enlisting on September 27, 1973. While training at Lackland AFB to become one of the Air Force's first female jet engine mechanics, she met and married her husband and partner Charles E. Bowman. During her early years of service, she was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire, England. She would later re-train in Personal Affairs and Training Management and spend most of her career stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, with the 113th Wing - the unit became her "other family." This tiny, but fierce, "mama bear " changed the lives of many, as she oversaw the training of hundreds of airmen for nearly 15 years. She retired as a Senior Master Sergeant, after more than 21 years of service on February 28, 1995.
Shortly after September 11th , 2001, Connie returned to the DC metro area, after living in Oregon for a few years. In March 2002, she returned to the 113 th Wing as a civilian contractor/employee, to lead a pilot program called the Family Readiness and Support Office. She helped to expand the program to Guard/Reserve units nationwide over the following 22 years. She recently retired for the second time after many years of selfless assistance to members, spouses, dependents and retirees, as servicemembers transitioned through deployments and retirement.
Aside from her military service, Connie enjoyed traveling, including several trips back to Europe in recent years. She also had a passion for crocheting, antique shopping, seeking out great seafood and spending time with her family.
Connie was predeceased by her father Marvin "Lincoln" Smith who passed in 1990, and a daughter, Jennifer Goggins, who passed shortly after her birth. She is survived by her mother: Louise Smith, children: Jeffery and wife Jackie Goggins, Richard and wife Sherry Dover, Rachael Bowman, Jake Bowman and Daniel Bowman, as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other extended family.
Friends, coworkers and acquaintances of Connie are invited to visit with her family, at the Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, Maryland on Monday, December 9th , from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. A funeral service will also be held at Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 10th at 11AM.
