Stanley Augustine Bliss, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and neighbor passed away on February 24, 2025 at the age of 91. He was a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida and formerly lived in Huntingtown, Maryland. Stanley was born on July 27, 1933 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Stanley F. and Alice D. Bliss, who preceded him in death. He was the third of seven children.
He is survived by his wife Connie of 69 years. His children Dale Bliss (Vickie), Mindy Fellows (Gary), Judith Raynor and Dwayne Bliss (Karen). His grandchildren Meagan Burger (Dennis), Erica Bliss, Kristen Bliss (Conner Downard) and Nicole Fellows. His great grandchildren Ethan and Emalee Burger.
Surviving siblings are Wayne T. Bliss (Delores) and Donna Hemm and sister-in-law Shirley Thorne along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sisters Evelyn Worrell and Wanda Taylor, as well as brothers Ernest Bliss and Eugene Bliss.
As a young adult, Stanley served as a volunteer firefighter at Oxon Hill Fire Department. He served in the Army from 1951 through 1954. Stanley was employed by Potomac Electric Power Company for over 35 years. In 1984, he received a Humanitarian Award from the District of Columbia as a Special Commendation for Heroism. He was Past Master of Oxon Hill Masonic Lodge 231 and a member of Unity Chapter 112 of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the American Legion for 40 years and Elks Lodge for 30 years. He was a member of Living Water Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Along with family time, Stanley enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, dancing, bowling, bike riding and playing pickleball preceding his stroke. He also enjoyed driving his 1967 Mustang convertible to car shows and in parades. Later in life, he enjoyed riding his three-wheel bike, assembling puzzles and reading.
Although he will be greatly missed, we feel joy in knowing he is dancing and walking in his forever body with Jesus.
