Stanley Dean Matchett, age 85 of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at his home. He was born in Adamsville, Ohio on January 9, 1937 the son of Russell Williams Matchett and Edna Leona (Oliver) Matchett. Stan attended schools in Adamsville graduating in 1955. He was graduated from Ohio State University in 1959 earning a BS in Agricultural Economics. Upon graduation he entered service to the U.S. Government Dept. of Agriculture. Later he was transferred to the Dept. of Census where he was later awarded the Silver Medal for Meritorious Service, the Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement in Federal Service and the Presidential Award as Meritorious Executive in the Senior Executive Service for sustained superior accomplishment in Management programs. He retired after 35 years of service but continued to work from home by private contractor until his death. Stanley and his wife Barbara were married for 57 years and were avid travelers of the United States and the world traveling to 6 of the 7 continents. While living in Woodbridge, VA, he served on the Church Council and as Treasurer of a mission Lutheran Church there. He was active for seven years in the Marlboro Boys and Girls Club coaching many boys in baseball and basketball. He also served on the Church Council and Treasurer for St. Paul’s Moravian Church and led other community efforts, being named as Upper Marlboro Citizen of the Year by the Knights of Columbus in 1981. Stanley is predeceased by his parents and Russell Williams Matchett, Edna Leona (Oliver) Matchett and a brother Rodney Kent Matchett. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Cowan) Matchett, two sons; Steven Douglas Matchett and Dr. James Patrick Matchett, two granddaughters; Jaclyn Elizabeth Matchett and Linsey Caroline Matchett and a brother Wesley Curtis Matchett. The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm where a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens Cemetery 900 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
