Stephen William Shipp Jr., born May 14, 1977 in Cheverly MD, a devoted husband to Sonia, an amazing father to Brenten(Emily), Kasey, and Kameron, a proud Grandfather “Pop” to Harper and Hadley ended his brave and valiant battle with cancer on the morning of Tuesday, April 15th, just as his beloved DCFD #4 platoon assumed duty. Along with being a dedicated family man, Steve was a real life hero and a hell of a Firefighter. Appointed to E33 in 2004 and later becoming a Technician / Truck Driver at Truck 7. Steve was that firefighter who everyone could trust and count on, a true brother to his guys. He was a great man and even greater friend. Most importantly Steve loved Jesus. He became a Christian in 2013 and was baptized in 2023 at his home church, Emmanuel Church. His faith gave him the strength and fight during his grueling two year battle with cancer which was nothing short of inspirational. Steve leaves behind in this life his immediate family mentioned above as well as his father, retired DCFD Captain Stephen Sr. (Joni), mother Lynn (Terry), stepfather Larry, brother Brandon(Kelly), sister Amber(Andy), niece Charlie, his doggie Cheerio, a lot of extended family, his Emmanuel Church family and all his DCFD Brothers and Sisters. A Celebration of Life will be held at Emmanuel Church in Huntingtown, MD on April 29th @ 1pm. The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to http://www.firefightercancersupport.org.
