On October 9, 2022, Steven Matthew Smith, age 60, a native Washingtonian, died in Brussels, Belgium, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Steve was an entrepreneur and built several successful businesses throughout his lifetime. His love of food and travel led him to trips to six of the seven continents.

Steve is survived by his wife, Stephanie Carol Riggs, of Washington, DC; his mother, Patricia Mary Smith (Schultz) of Berlin MD; his siblings, Gerald Smith (Bonnie) of Hebron, MD, Timothy Smith of Cambridge, MD, Mildred Price (Joseph) of Millville, DE; his parents-in-law, Carol and Les Henig Kensington, MD; brothers-in-law, Adam Riggs (Amanda) of Washington DC, Jason Riggs (Susan) of New Orleans, LA, and Jonathan Henig (Elizabeth) of Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law, Sara Riggs (Niki) of New York, NY and Rachel Henig (Jon) of Kensington, MD; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Richard Smith; his brother Christopher Clark Smith; his nephew Zachary Ambrose Zetty; his maternal grandparents, Guy Leroy Schultz and Mildred Cecelia; his paternal grandparents, Alfred W. Smith and Ellen Olivia.
