Susan Elizabeth Peters

October 5, 1948 — February 15, 2012

Died peacefully following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 10:37 a.m. at her home in Ocean Isle, North Carolina.\nSusan was born in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late John "Steve" and Sally Cornelison. She was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Cornelison. Her former husband, James Peters, resides in Ocean Isle, North Carolina. Susan will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Jaime Lynn Beisler and husband Joe of Ocean Isle, NC, Katherine Sue Cooper and husband Toby of Pomfret, MD and four grandchildren, Dylan James Beisler, Alyssa Gales, Gabrielle Cooper and Kolbey Cooper.\nSusan was a 1966 graduate of Surrattsville High School in Clinton, MD. After high school she worked full time for the Federal Government in Washington, DC, retiring in April 2006 from the US Census Bureau in Suitland, MD. Since then she held several positions at the Rod N Reel Marina & Hotel and volunteered at voting polls in her North Beach community. Susan was a loyal member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and VFW Posts. She loved volunteering her time and meeting new people. Susan's amazing life was blessed with love and friendships that have lasted and grown through the years. She loved to laugh and gossip and found pleasure in the simplest of things; sunrises, sunsets, the bay, the beach and rainy days that could never take away her smile. She will be remembered in so many ways and always being a true friend to those who knew her. Susan loyally demonstrated her passion for the Redskins, the Orioles, the Nationals and the Maryland Terrapins along with her tireless devotion and dedication to her family and grandchildren.\nA memorial service where family and friends can gather to pay tribute to Susan and to share memories of her life will be held at Lee Funeral Home in Owings, MD from 5 pm to time of servie at 7:30 pm, Thursday, February23, 2012. The Funeral Home is located along MD Route 4 @ 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736, 301-855-0888. There will be no graveside service for Susan's cremated remains. In lieu of flowers a Memorial Funds has been established. The family plans a Memorial Bench in Susan's name on the North Beach Boardwalk, contributions envelopes will be available for the donations at the funeral home.
